Irish DPC to send proposed Facebook GDPR fines to EU member states by September

The Irish Data Protection Commission has given Facebook copies of its final investigative reports for some of the 11 cases it opened against the tech company under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, The Wall Street Journal reports. Irish DPC Spokesman Graham Doyle said the agency plans to send a select number of draft decisions, as well as any proposed fines and sanctions, to the other EU member states by the end of the September. European privacy officials said the approval process for those fines could stretch to the end of 2019 or into the beginning of next year. A Facebook spokeswoman said the company is “in close contact with the Irish Data Protection Commission to ensure we are answering their questions.� (Registration may be required to access this story.)
