Organization’s interference with DPO could lead to GDPR fine

Ireland’s Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection may become the first public body to be fined under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, Planet Biometrics reports. The Irish Data Protection Commission launched an investigation into the department last year after it was discovered a senior official changed an online declaration that said it collected biometric data, according to a report from The Times. A draft DPC report states those officials interfered with the department’s own data protection officer. The department holds the largest data set on the Irish population and could face a fine of up to 1 million euros.
